Detox Journal : Day XVIII

” 26 This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open.  27 God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message.  28 We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less.”

Colossians 1:26-28 (Message Translation)

Weight: 17o+?

Feeling: I honestly do not feel much different now that I’m eating chicken and fish. The most noticeable change, physiologically has to be with my digestive system and how much this cleanse has helped to clean that out and make it more regular and often. I’m still not used to having multiple BMS in one day!

Today as the day wore on I started to feel more drowsy and started to get a mild fever. I took some benedryl to help with the itching and scratching from the Poison Ivy and bug bites, so that has contributed to my drowsiness. I also have not been getting much sleep these past few nights, usually between 2-5 hrs a night.

Meals:

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries,  banana, flax oil, and water).

Lunch- I had leftovers from dinner last night.

Afternoon Snack, I had a SP Shake before getting ready for bed.

Dinner- For dinner tonight, Bridgette baked some chicken that she seasoned with fresh herbs from the garden and other spices. We had brown rice and sautéed mushrooms, green peppers, and asparagus. Also, Bridgette made acorn squash and used a little butter (just a little) and cinnamon for flavor.

Reading:   The Divine Hours, Colossians,  Psalms .

Detox Journal : Day XII

Whom have I in heaven but you?

I desire you more than anything on earth.

My health my fail, and my spirit may grow weak,

but God remains the strength of my heart;

he is mine forever.

Psalm 73:25-26

Weight: 177 (-7.5  lbs)

Feeling: Today the temptation began in the morning with some friends that I meet with weekly to pray/eat with. There was some miscommunication and my friend thought we could have eggs and bacon… and I ate just a little bit! But after the meeting, I ran over seven miles the last two in very wet and rainy conditions (I actually wrote a poem about it, Running the Race). It felt great to be able to go on a long run again, I wasn’t able to before I was allowed to add protein to the cleanse.

Meals:

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries,  banana, flax oil, and water).

Lunch- It had mixed greens (some of which came from my little garden), artichoke hearts, grape tomatoes, mushrooms. Topped with herb-crusted chicken. Also, I had a SP Shake before my afternoon run.

Before I went to my friend’s wedding rehearsal , I had my third SP Shake in the early evening.

Dinner- We were at Gabe and Mary’s wedding rehearsal dinner, but I was able to have Sea bass and vegetables.

Detox Journal : Day XI

All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him.

2 Samuel 14:14

Weight: 177.5 (-7 lbs)

Feeling: The chicken has been a life saver for my fitness routine and I can feel the results. Having my mother-in-law in town has been such a blessing when we stay in and cook; however, with any guest, when we go out to eat there are certain compromises that you have to make. For instance I ordered Salmon, but it came with a light sauce on top of it. As long as this isn’t an everyday occurrence, I am OK with it.

Meals:

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries,  banana, flax oil, and water).

Lunch- I had a salad my mother-in-law made for me, part of which was leftovers. It had mixed greens (some of which came from my little garden), asparagus, grape tomatoes, yellow squash, cucumbers, mushrooms. Topped with herb-crusted chicken.

Also, I had a SP Shake in the late afternoon.

Dinner- My mother-in-law took Bridgette and I out to dinner at Saul Good in Lexington. I ordered grilled (yikes) Salmon and fresh vegetables. It was delightful.

Detox Journal : Day X

Let me proclaim your power to this new generation,

your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Psalm 71:18

Weight: 177.6 (-6.9 lbs)

Feeling: I started to incorporate chicken and fish into my diet today. I am starting to regain more energy from the protein and have noticed a tremendous difference in my body when I run and work out now. I would recommend taking it easy working out the first ten days, but you can add more miles/weight the last ten days.

Meals:

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries,  banana, flax oil, and water).

Lunch- Romain lettuce, spring mix, spinach, green peppers, mushrooms, sliced herb crusted chicken (a little bit of vinaigrette on top) Also, I had a SP Shake.

Dinner- My mother in a law made me a delicious salad. It had mixed greens (some of which came from my little garden), artichoke hearts, grape tomatoes, avocados, cucumbers. Topped with herb-crusted chicken.

Detox Journal : Day VIII

I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

Philippians 3:10-11

Weight: 179 (-5 lbs)

Feeling: I am starting to feel used to this cleanse. Perhaps I am over not having my morning coffee and the other delights that I used to indulge in prior to this cleanse. Today Bridgette’s mother came down to Wilmore to stay with us, which actually helps, because she knows how to cook veggies! I did a lot of lifting today and felt normal during and after it. My friend is moving to California, so we had to move most of his stuff. It wasn’t really a problem lifting. Then I spent the day working in the yard making sure everything looked trimmed and clean for my mother in law’s visit. Most important thing to remember on the cleanse is to HYDRATE.

Meals:

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries,  banana, flax oil, pomegranate juice, and water).

Lunch- Brown rice  with  frozen carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and a salad (spring mix w/ romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, green peppers and an apple)   Also, I had a SP Shake.

Dinner- Stir fried yellow squash, zucchini, green peppers with acorn squash and brown rice. Also we had fresh corn!

Detox Journal : Day V

” David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter and losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.”

I Samuel 17:45-47

Feeling: The fifth day was the worst day yet for me. Just when I started to feel like I was getting used to rhythm of this cleanse, I became very grumpy and wanted to eat pizza and fast food! I just felt very tired, sore, and in a bad mood the entire day yesterday! I think the junk food craving began when my wife and I were driving to Ohio and we stopped in a gas station and saw all this junk food – pizza, double cheeseburgers, chicken sandwich, ect. My wife, Bridgette is pregnant too, but has been amazing at how health she eats! When we got back to the house she said she had to go somewhere. Where did she go…. Little Caesars to get a Hot and Ready pizza… and she ate the entire pizza in the parking lot and didn’t save me a bite! It’s not easy doing this cleanse with a pregnant wife!

Meals: I really didn’t eat a whole lot this day compared to the others.

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries, spinach, banana, flax oil, pomegranate juice, and water) and a pear and strawberries.

Lunch- Brown rice, acorn squash (with cinnamon, salt, pepper), frozen carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and some turnips.   Also, I had a SP Shake.

Dinner- Dinner wasn’t anything to blog about – steamed broccoli and turnips. With cauliflower, carrots on top of brown rice.  Finally, fresh cucumbers seasoned with salt, pepper, and fresh cilantro from the garden.

Snack - Freshly Made Vegetables Juice

Reading: The Hobbit,  I Samuel.

Detox Journal : Day I

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”

Proverbs 25:28

Yesterday was the first day taking the Standard Process Purification.

Feeling: During the first day, I had a minor headache most of the day.  Most likely this is due to drinking 3+ cups of coffee a day, but I slowly weened myself off the bean by going down to one cup a day, then to one cup of “half-caf”, and finally drinking tea. The thing that was hard for me (and will continue to be) is swallowing the 30 capsules each day! You can see how many and how often I have to take the supplements in my previous post. As the day wore on, I could feel more and more the cleansing process taking place, and also I felt tired. I ended up going to bed by 10:30 PM.

Meals: Preparing your meals is one of the more daunting parts of the purification. Pretty much consult your local vegan. Fortunately for me (and for you), my wife is helping me.

Breakfast- SP Shake (w/ blueberries, strawberries, banana, flax oil, pomegranate juice, and water).

Lunch- Tomato w/ salt, pepper, and fresh cilantro from the garden and a sliced apple.

Dinner- Romaine Lettuce, Spring Mix Lettuce, brown rice, sautéed Portobello mushrooms, green peppers.

Reading: The Hobbit, Proverbs 25-27.
