Welcome to a new Blog series called, Love-Helps! This series will focus on some hard-learned marriage and family lessons from a young married couple seeking to love each other, family, neighbor, and God in holy love.
Secular marriage today has become nothing short of a legal, contractual, or consensual agreement between two romantically interested and/or similarly minded persons. Christian Marriage, on the other hand, instead of being about an outward and visible sign to an inward and invisible mystery sealed and perfected by the power of the Holy Spirit has become nothing short of a mental assent to remain together “till death do us part.” But what happens when the romance fades or the interests change? What happens when children are born or children are lost? What happens when old wounds are poked at or new wounds created? What happens when we neglect purity and passion for pornography and pretense? What I am suggesting in this series is that marriage needs to be re-imagined, re-awakened, and re-surrected as a mystery to be discovered, a reality to be lived out, and a call to submit to one another in Christ’s Love, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.
“Love-Helps” is a series of posts on “helps” – practical lessons learned to abide in marriage as mystery. ”Love-Helps” is also a “statement” – love (of the self-giving variety) does indeed help us. Some early post ideas are: “remembering your story”, “stop preaching”, and “Writing before Speaking.”
